The Y.A.L.E. Leader of the Year Scholarship honors a high school student for outstanding leadership as a Y.A.L.E. ambassador. The essence of an outstanding leader is a person with integrity; they are trustworthy and comfortable handling tough situations. Valuing everyone in the program and investing time to let the others know they are important to the mission are key traits. If you encounter this youth leader, you will see a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable youth who is genuine in their approach. One recipient will receive a $500 Scholarship.
The FLCRC Service Learning Scholarship will go to a high school student for outstanding service as a Y.A.L.E. ambassador. Service learning supports a culture of civic engagement through learning and investing in the community. By working in the community, students can enhance their knowledge, gain a better understanding of themselves, explore and develop ways to contribute to the community. This award highlights a self-confident youth with an enhanced commitment to public service. One recipient will receive a $500 Scholarship.

The Hildred Jones-Drain Community Scholarship will go to a high school student with outstanding service in the community. Hildred Jones-Drain was a pillar in the community; a mother, grandmother, faithful servant in the church, and motivator to everyone she came in contact with. Volunteering and giving back to the community is one of the most important things an individual can do. The characteristics of an outstanding senior for this award includes the following:

Ms. Merriweather was a very active member of the Youth Ambassador Leadership Education (Y.A.L.E.) program and valuable member of the Family Life and Community Resource Center (FLCRC) team. In 2018, she was the recipient of FLCRC Service-Learning Scholarship Award.
She freely gave of her time and energy while pursuing her college dreams at Texas Southern University.
