Welcome from the Executive DirectorThroughout this difficult year, FLCRC has remained committed to providing program services and assist families with basic needs during this pandemic. In midst of the COVID-19 crisis, FLCRC held 20 events serving over 500 students, parents and crime victims in 2020. While the in-person events were tremendously impacted this year; our Youth Ambassador Leadership Education (Y.A.L.E.) leaders still managed to earn 717 service learning volunteer hours, completed 10 service projects and interviewed for several scholarships and awards. With the assistance of volunteers and donors who remained loyal throughout the year, FLCRC hosted our first virtual banquet on December 3rd with over 60 attendees participating with the Zoom event. The Y.A.L.E. leaders presented to the group, showcased their service-learning activities and highlighted their leadership events with the audience. The Y.A.L.E. leaders are very excited and ready for 2021! FLCRC’s Family First: New Triumphs Capital Campaign is well on the way and 2021 is the year for the expansion to a larger facility. FLCRC’s new building will provide the opportunity for positive engagement while practicing social distancing. We will have several counseling offices, a computer room and a conference room for client services. To learn more about the Capital Campaign, download the FLCRC App (iOs/Android) or visit FamilyLifeCRC.org/campaign. Sincerely, Ilene Harper, Ph.D. |
FLCRC Virtual Banquet is a Success! On Thursday, December 3rd, 74 staff members, volunteers, Y.A.L.E. leaders and supporters of FLCRC gathered virtually to celebrate a year of great accomplishments at our Fourth Annual FLCRC Banquet. The night’s events, hosted by FLCRC Executive Director Dr. Ilene Harper and Pre-Y.A.L.E. student leader Jordan Thomas, included 2020 highlights, annual Scholarships and Awards presentations, silent auction, and an inspiring keynote message from Eshaunte’ Williams (“EWill the Motivator”), a Corporate Manager at Five Nine Solutions. The silent auction raised over $2,000 to benefit the Y.A.L.E. Scholarships and Awards Program. Congratulations to our 2020 Scholarships and Awards recipients, and a special thanks to all of our staff members and sponsors for making this event possible. Here’s to a fantastic 2021! |
Party Affiliations Teen TalkOn Thursday, October 22nd, Y.A.L.E. students gathered for an FLCRC Teen Talk centered around the Democratic and Republican political parties. This topic was especially relevant with the upcoming presidential election. Our featured panelists were Cynthia Ginyard, Chair of the Fort Bend County Democratic Party, Richard Germer, a volunteer for many years for the Republican Party with a Masters in Political Science, and Kevin Patton, State Farm Insurance Agency. Each panelist shared information about their affiliated parties and their involvement with the parties. The students were highly engaged with many challenging questions for them, which will likely lead to future Teen Talks on this topic.
