Each year, the Family Life and Community Resource Center (FLCRC) partners with local businesses and organizations to host this high energy, interactive community event for parents and students! The Back-2-School Parent Chat highlights important educational information and links participants with resources throughout Fort Bend County to provide a quality education to all students.
Attendees enjoy a motivational message, participate in several interactive sessions, partake in drawings for door prizes, and receive a FREE backpack with school supplies.
Registration is required to attend this event. Both parents and students must be present to receive the backpacks and school supplies. CEU credit is available to educators for a $15 fee.
FLCRC seeks to bridge the gap between Home and School. The launch of the Annual Back-2-School Parent Chat in 2004 has proven to be an effective strategy toward FLCRC achieving this goal.
The Back-2-School Parent Chat provides parents and students with educational information and links them with resources throughout the community to help students become life-long learners.
Initially, the program targeted 50 students in 2004 and seven years later over 500 students and nearly 250 parents participated in the 2011 Annual Back-2-School Parent Chat. Each year the program expands to include more resources for parents and students. The 2012 and 2013 Annual Back-2-School Parent Chat included several College Readiness and Job Preparation sessions.
